Follow your fear. Don't back away from subjects that make you uncomfortable, and don't try to keep your personal demons off the page. Even if you never publish the poems they produce, you have to push yourself and write as honestly as possible.

Indulged in your potential
I saw the diamond through the rough
I loved the pieces of you that made me whole
I know you saw it coming
But I couldn’t help myself

If I could bottle all the time I spend looking at the sky
I might be able to bring all these feelings back to life

If I could count up all the minutes lost
Gazing up into the stars
I might have found a remedy
Instead of nursing my battle scars

we were waiting for the train to pass
sitting in your car
the clouds that day made quite a spectacle
resulted of storms brewing from afar
then dead ahead, in front of me,
a hundred miles into space
a winged thing took formed in the clouds
the shape of an angel
a child with wings
"look at that," i said to you
you silly girl, that's been so long
the thing you saw has since transformed
and

Maybe it’s just a state of mine
Maybe it’s just a phase
Maybe it’s the result of a changing mind
A sign of the times, signaling better days.
Forgive my indecision, dear
If I still can’t decide what I want…
If I’m not making sense,
And I seem too unstable
when I fail to follow up on the promises
I so often flaunt.
I sat down yesterday, in front of the mirror
Looking long and hard at myself
I sat and started talking
I realized the desperation in myself

Heya,

I just found you randomly while bored. Your poems are pretty cool. Looking at your user info, we have a fair bit in common. DNA rules, and I love MC Escher, too. My boyfriend gave me a big books of most of his prints for my birthday.

Nice to meet you.

he is my favorite mc. his songs put a beat to inspiration, its like laughing at pain, like beautiful rain tapping a slightly cracked window pane. (haha, I started rhyming)
You are by far the coolest person I have come to know on deviant art. someday i hope our paths cross (a concert, smoke circle, peace corps)

no prob, i love that picture....for whatever reason i feel compelled to write something to go with it because somethimes that's how i feel, i think that if i could just find the right words (isn't that always the hardest obstacle?), if i could piece toghether the random judgements swimming around my mind, it would be the most self-representative poem i've ever written.
